Have you been down North Granville lately?

Does anyone know what’s happening here?  Between Smith and Drake, nearly every tree has been chopped down. I didn’t notice the enormous stumps at first.  Instead, I noticed how bright it was.  This must have happened over the past week, because I remember there being trees last weekend.

Dozens of peculiar looking stumps line the sidewalks on either side now.  When I think of chopped down trees, I imagine short little stumps.  The stumps along Granville are at chest height – I watched a few people leaning on them or hopping on top to sit.  Here’s another:

Anyway, it’s always sad to lose green space – especially when the remnants are left behind to taunt you.
