Second Annual Blog Action Day: Poverty

Manea’s dream is to go back to Romania and find his mother. He smiles inside his beard, looking upward. Manea is currently homeless and thinks his mother may be dead, or worse, she may not remember him.

Blog Action Day is an annual nonprofit event that aims to unite the world’s bloggers, podcasters and videocasters, to post about the same issue on the same day. Our aim is to raise awareness and trigger a global discussion.

Last year marked the first (of hopefully many) Blog Action Day, a worldwide mass participatory event where bloggers of all shapes, sizes, creeds and mottos focus their blogging efforts on one noble cause.  Last year, the focus of BAD was on the environment.  This year, it’s poverty.

So, instead of rambling on about poverty myself, perhaps I’ll ask my fellow Terry* readers (you all likely know more about this than I do) – what are your thoughts?  Is enough being done in Vancouver (or in your city) to fight poverty?  Do you think poverty is a worthwhile cause in the first place?  Why or why not?  Any other thoughts?
