The Power to Inspire

Although we usually tend to discuss more cerebral issues on the Terry website, I think that its important to take a look at cool trends in areas other than academia. I stumbled across this video on You Tube today. It was the first mainstream contest of an underground sport called Free Running (or Parkour). If you aren’t already familiar with free running imagine athletes who turn everyday downtown and urban locations into a jungle gym. They find new ways to move around environments using all of their strength and imagination.

Red Bull, possibly the most dynamically marketed company on the planet, sponsored the first mainstream competition for free runners this year. The set-up included a full 4 story building, scaffolding, bars, poles, cars, and anything else you can think of. Throw in several thousand fans and prepare to be amazed.

That blew my mind! And it speaks to the fact that, as a species, we will always come up with something new or something different.
