The most interesting part to me is the comments section beneath the article. Apparently people feel very strongly about this particular issue. Someone even made the connection between the current economic situation and Archie’s choice of a woman with family money!
Edit: also interesting is the feminist interpretation that this signals progress for women’s sexuality. Someone somewhere made the point that in the fifties, Veronica would have been “the other woman” with whom Archie would have a torrid affair while Betty was at home with the kids.
Maybe this is all a bit of a stretch, but like with Watchmen, it’s interesting to see comic books being used and interpreted as a reflection of modern culture.
