Enough of the serious, and onto the unserious – the internet, and stuff:
Popularity of net-speak: lol wins! wtf and omg come in at a close second, while rofl and lmao aren’t doing well at all…
How about internet memes?
A sampling of internet memes, from 2003-2007. Engrish and dancing baby still holding on strong after over 3 years of meme-dom.
Following up on Dave Ng’s investigation into Britney and Paris vs. Climate change, I decided to compare lol, o rly, and climate change:

Although the difference between “lol” and “climate” could just be the fact that most people already know what “lol” is (and so wouldn’t need to search for it).
BTW, if you google “lol” you get 495,000,000 hits – waaay more than “climate”
You may be right, but it is interesting to not that the overall search-volume trends are increasing for “lol” and decreasing for “climate”.
roflcopter, lol!
omg, g2g, brb!
