Cyclone Sidr downgraded

But not before doing a lot of damage.

DHAKA, Bangladesh (AP) — A cyclone that slammed into the coast with 150 mph winds killed at least 1,100 people, isolating remote towns and villages swamped by a storm surge or hemmed in by piles of debris, aid workers and a Bangladeshi news agency said Friday. Tropical Cyclone Sidr roared across the country’s southwestern coast late Thursday with driving rain and high waves, leveling thousands of flimsy huts and forcing the evacuation of 650,000 villagers, officials said. I can’t even imagine what it would be like to feel the brunt of 240kph winds – your world literally blended and whipped away in a sensory hell. This particular AP report doesn’t even go into the potentially hundred’s of thousands of individuals whose homes are now destroyed. If you’re concerned, maybe humanitarian help is the first step – and the Red Cross seems to be a good place to start.
