Involvement Opportunity: Terry Project Podcast, Asst. to Technical Producer

The Terry Project Podcast had a fun year last year. We shared UBC stories, debated euthanasia, examined indigenous rights and title , looked at post-Gaddafi Libya, analyzed micro-finance in India, and even explored the weird world of “pick up artists.” But this is only the beginning. Our show is only getting better, and we are radically expanding and improving in the coming school year.

What is the Terry Project Podcast?

The Terry Project Podcast is a documentary radio series that explores how big ideas affect real people’s lives. Each week, UBC students Sam Fenn and Gordon Katic set out to solve a genuine mystery in the sciences and humanities by speaking to experts and sleuthing around Vancouver. Results vary.

Position: Assistant to the Technical Producer

To efficiently produce weekly content on our podcast and radio show, we to spend many hours editing the program. This person will work both in the CiTR studios and from home, ensuring that our program is of a professionally produced quality.

Responsibilities include:

  • Basic editing of audio recordings (cutting out ah’s, ums, awkward pauses).
  • Taking notes on audio recordings, and working collaboratively with the other producers to decide what raw audio content is worth featuring on the podcast.
  • Ensuring all studio and portable equipment is functioning properly, and managing the audio levels during an interview.
  • Assisting the technical producer in compiling all components into a polished 60-minute radio documentary.

Basic knowledge of applicable editing software (Audacity or Pro Tools) is preferred, but a willingness to learn is sufficient. Ability to navigate new software, work independently, and address time-sensitive technical issues is required.

We are looking for 1-2 enthusiastic volunteers who will be available for a 3-4 hour time commitment each week, starting in September.

If you are interested, please email Gordon Katic by August 15th with a CV and brief cover letter explaining why you’d like to help, and detailing any relevant experience you might have.
