Resurrecting the Woolly Mammoth

O.K. I’m going to make Friday my day to see what’s going on around UBC and/or Vancouver that looks like it would be worth checking out. Here’s one on genetics and the woolly mammoth, which has the added bonus of hanging out at the Vancouver Club (a nice place by all accounts.)

Lions, sabertooth tigers, bears, oh my! Did you know that McMaster researcher s recently deciphered the woolly mammoth’s genome? Now there is talk of bringing back extinct species; woolly mammoths, sabertooth cats, giant ground sloths, and many others. Join fellow McMaster alumni in the Vancouver area as Dr. Hendrik Poinar , one of McMaster’s most popular professors , presents his dynamic and lively discussion on science and the possibility of recreating extinct species. Dr. Hendrick Poinar is an Associate Professor with the Department of Anthropology & Pathology and Molecular Medicine at McMaster University, as well as the Senator William McMaster Chair of Paleogenetics.
