Vancouver Evergreen Skytrain Receives $350 Million

In Burnaby this morning, Stephan Harper announced that Translink would receive $350 million of federal funding to complete the Evergreen Line, a skytrain line starting in Burnaby, and running to Coquitlam via Port Moody. (CBC article).  According to Wikipedia (link), the Evergreen extension was originally planned to be completed alongside the Millenium Line project (finished 2002).  The project is still $180 million short of the $1.4 billion price tag.

Millions and billions cease to really mean anything once you’ve typed them enough times, especially if you’ve never seen or touched it.  Maybe if I start typing “dollar”, I can forgot how few I have.  Dollar dollar dollar dollar.

Anyway, could someone explain the last paragraph of the CBC article:

The remaining $173 million will be funded by project partners, including a possible public-private partnership and potentially through transit-oriented land development, said a statement released by the province.

Wiki tells me that “transit-oriented land development” is, “A transit-oriented development (TOD) is a mixed-use residential or commercial area designed to maximize access to public transport, and often incorporates features to encourage transit ridership.” (source)

Does anyone know what sort of “development” might pop up?
