A conference on counter intuition?

Lisa says:

One of the main objectives of modern science is to improve the welfare of society. We strive to accomplish this by various means: disease research and prevention, technological advancements to enhance lifestyle quality, epidemiological studies investigating cultural nutritional differences, etc. In turn, increasing our knowledge base gives us the opportunity to contribute to improvements in public health care. However, in our ambitions to “do good” for humankind, are we really 100% sure of the ramifications of our actions? The road to hell is said to be paved with good intentions, and in our quest to truly “help,” we must analyze not only our intentions, but the final destination as well. In terms of orthodox beliefs of health care, what would “Hell” be? At first glance an issue may seem black and white, but when we truly stop to investigate it more carefully, we certainly cannot deem it as such.

The ISSA Presents: Counter-intuition Conference has invited three renowned speakers who will be probing ideas and cases that may at first seem counter-intuitive. Topics include: Illicit drug use & Harm Reduction (Thomas Kerr), The Hygiene Hypothesis (Natalie Prystajecky), and The Harm of Humanitarian Efforts (Grant Charles). We hope to create an environment that allows for engaging and thought-provoking discussion among the lecturers and our delegates.

The conference will be held on Wednesday, March 2nd from 5:30pm – 10:00pm at IKBLC Room 261. We warmly invite all those interested in attending, as it promises to be a fantastic night of interesting and insightful ideas. Dinner will be provided at around 7:00pm, and we will also be having time for discussion among delegates.
