“Science: It’s a girl thing.” #facepalm #sciencegirlthing

Well, the science twitter sphere is all the buzz with the below video recently released by the European Commission to attract more females into science.

Female scientists are pretty unanimous in their disappointment, and rightly so in my opinion. It seems a little sloppy to me to rely on such overt stereotypes, especially stereotypes that, frankly, don’t appear to represent real life. My lab runs field trips with students all the time, I honestly don’t get the sense that a campaign like this would strike any chord.

Still, I’m curious as to what others might think. Especially those of you who are students out there.
