How we can help
At UBC Mix, we have the resources to help you achieve your interdisciplinary mix project. Here are some of the things that we can do for you:
Introduce you to like-minded instructors: The hardest part of establishing a project between two or more classes is finding other receptive instructors. The UBC Mix Community Portal was developed as the result of an April 2011 UBC Mixer where instructors asked for a place to record ideas over time and to make connections with one another. It’s an online community of practice with instructor profiles, examples of previous mixes, scholarship on interdisciplinary teaching, and more. Anyone with a UBC Campus Wide Login can contribute. We’re also actively scouting out departments and instructors open to a Mix. We’re happy to help you develop a partnership for whatever project you come up with!
Act as a springboard for your ideas: UBC Mix isn’t a product of administrative mandates or publicity needs. We were established by a group of like-minded instructors coming together to help other instructors better their classes through interdisciplinary education. As educators, we can have conversations about pedagogy, theory, resources, and funding. We can listen to your ideas and give the sort of feedback that you need to make them succeed.
Help you plan, publicize and execute your mix idea: We’ve got a team of savvy and enthusiastic educators and student assistants whose job is to take your idea and make it happen. We can help arrange room bookings, design flyers and websites, and even provide assistance come the day of your Mix event.
Provide financial support up to $500 to help you reach your goals: We want to enter into a partnership with you and that also means bringing money to the table. You can use this money in a number of ways including topping up a TA’s salary, renting equipment, organizing transportation, or even honoraria for guest speakers.
If you have any questions about what we can do for you, just contact us and we’ll be happy to meet with you to discuss them further.
