Rise of the Citizen Policy Analyst: Altay Sedat Otun at TEDxTerry Talks 2013

Altay Sedat Otun speaks about the need to create opportunities for students to get more involved in critical policy debates affecting the world. He argues that as a result of an ever-increasing number of stimulation conferences such as the Model United Nations and Model NATO, undergraduate students have been left to pretend to be diplomats and policy analysts, instead of taking part in the process.

Altay is a fourth year Political Science major at UBC, and he is also the founder of Canada’s first student – run policy think tank.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
