Click, Donate Rice, Improve your Vocabulary

What’s easy, fun and helps fight hunger?

It’s called FreeRice.com.

For those who don’t already know this site, all you do is test your vocabulary by choosing the correct definition for a given word, and you can help fight world hunger!  Basically, for every time you answer correctly, 10 grains of rice are donated toward the UN World Food Program.  The site is run by a non-profit organization through the help of sponsors, who pay for the rice every time their banner is displayed at the bottom of the page.  This site has helped people in Bangladesh, Uganda and Cambodia.  According to the site, it’s donated over 58 billion grains of rice to date.  It was also named by Times.com as one of the best 50 websites of 2008.

I couldn’t find any direct reference to this site on Terry* yet.   So I figure it’s worth a mention, or a reminder if you’ve forgotten about it.

I’m especially addicted to this game since I discovered the ‘subjects’ tab.  This means I can answer questions related not only to vocabulary, but art, language, geography, math and chemistry.   Anytime I’m bored, I just click on the little icon on my FireFox toolbar and I begin procrastinating for my next assignment.  It’s well worth a look-see!

She is not exactly sure what she's doing at UBC (it must needs do with learning, growing?) but there she is. IR and French are her focus- but then again she is sort of unfocused in general.
